Religious & Spiritual
Trauma Counseling

You are not broken. You are becoming.

If you carry wounds from harmful religious or spiritual experiences, you're not alone. Many people are moving through the tender, often disorienting journey of untangling themselves from fear-based teachings, spiritual abuse, or rigid systems that left little room for their full humanity.

This offering is a compassionate space for you to heal, reclaim your inner authority, and explore a spirituality that honors your truth.

What is Religious Trauma Counseling?

Religious trauma counseling offers a compassionate and clinically grounded space for individuals who have been harmed by religious or spiritual systems. Whether you've experienced coercive control, spiritual abuse, purity culture, identity suppression, or fear-based theology, these wounds can deeply impact your sense of self, relationships, and mental health. In our work together, we gently explore the beliefs and experiences that have shaped you, honoring the pain and confusion they may have caused while creating space for clarity and healing.

This counseling approach integrates trauma-informed care with an understanding of how religious conditioning can affect emotional regulation, attachment, sexuality and self-worth. You will not be pressured to reclaim or reject any particular faith tradition - instead, we move at your pace, helping you process grief, rebuild trust in your intuition, and reconnect with a sense of agency. Whether you are deconstructing, deconverting, or redefining your spiritual path, you are met with non-judgment, respect, and skilled support.

Many who seek religious trauma counseling are longing to feel whole again, to reclaim their voice, and to explore meaning on their own terms. You don't have to walk this path alone. Together, we can unravel harmful narratives, tend to the nervous system, and build a foundation for your healing that aligns with your values and lived truth. This is sacred, personal work - and you are worthy of the freedom and peace that comes from doing it.

The space is yours to:

  • Share and process the impact of your religious trauma experiences

  • Explore what spirituality means for you now

  • Release shame and rediscover your own inner wisdom

  • Learn new practices that feel healing, grounding and authentic

  • Reconnect with a sense of the sacred - if and when you are ready

Who is this for?

This work is especially for you if reside within the state of Wisconsin and:

  • You're healing from spiritual abuse, manipulation or fear-based teachings

  • You're deconstructing or questioning your faith and feel overwhelmed, confused or isolated

  • You struggle with guilt, shame or anxiety around sexuality, identity or morality

  • You were taught to suppress your emotions, needs or autonomy for the sake of religious obedience

  • You have been excluded, judged or harmed by a religious community due to your gender, sexuality or beliefs

  • You feel disconnected from your body, intuition, or sense of inner authority due to religious messaging

  • You want to support rebuilding trust in yourself and others after religious betrayal or trauma

  • You're seeking a nonjudgmental space to explore sexuality, reclaim personal meaning or live without religion

This work is open to people of all backgrounds, including those who are still religious, formerly religious, or unsure of where they stand.

What to Expect

Each session is 50 minutes and held privately virtually or in person. In our sessions together, we begin by exploring your unique experiences with religion or spirituality, identifying the specific beliefs, environments or relationships that may have contributed to harm. Whether you need space to vent, reflect, or grieve, I meet you where you are - emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.

As we build trust, we gently work to understand how religious trauma may be showing up in your body, thoughts, relationships, and sense of self. Our work may include identifying internalized messages, processing grief or fear, setting boundaries, and cultivating self-compassion and resilience.

Each session is tailored to your needs and pace - this is your process. Some clients want to make sense of the past, while others are more focued on the present or envisioning a future free from harmful belief systems. Whether you're untangling spiritual confusion, working through anxiety or shame, or simply seeking a place to breathe and feel heard, our sessions are a space for you to heal and reconnect with your inner truth.

My Approach

My approach to religious trauma counseling is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and a deep respect for your lived experience. I provide a nonjudgmental and affirming space where you are invited to share your story at your own pace. Rather than pathologizing your reactions, I see them as intelligent responses to systems that may hav demanded conformity, silence or self-denial. My role is not to tell you what to believe, but to walk alongside you as you explore what feels true and safe for you now.

I draw from trauma-informed, somatic and attachment-based practices to support both emotional healing and nervous system regulation. We may work with the body to release stored fear or shame, identify and challenge internalized beliefs, and gently rebuild your sense of safety, autonomy, and self-trust. Whether you are navigating deconstruction, spiritual disconnection, or identity reclamation, I hold space for the complexities that arise with care and clarity.

Spiritual wounding can cut deeply - but it doesn't have to define your future. I believe healing is possible through presence, relationship, and reclaiming your voice. Together, we will create a path that honors your pain, celebrates your resilience, and opens up new possibilities for meaning, connection and peace on your own terms.

Good Faith Estimate & No Surprises Act

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers are required to provide a good faith estimate of expected charges for items and services to individuals who are not enrolled in any insurance plan and do not have coverage under a Federal Healthcare Program, or not planning on filing a claim with their plan or coverage, with an estimate of the cost for services being requested. This estimate aims to provide transparency regarding fees by providing fee schedules for all services provided by this clinician.

As your therapy needs may vary throughout the year, you may need less or more frequent sessions, which will impact your estimate accordingly. You may also discontinue therapy at anytime.

Fee Schedules

Initial Intake - One Time Service - $165

Individual Therapy, 50m - Frequency Varies - $165

Extended Session, 90m - Frequency Varies - $280

Extended Session, 120m - Frequency Varies - $350

While your estimate does not need to be exact, the law gives you the authority to contest any bill that is $400 or more higher than your estimate. If the provider has reason to believe the estimate is inaccurate, the estimate can be updated but only for future services. The good faith estimate does not include services not provided by your provider that you may need, or that your provider may recommend.

For further questions or more information related to the Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.go/nosurprises or 800-368-1019.
